In preparation for an exciting summer filled with learning about your course's topic and participating in exploratory and social programming activities, there are a few items we thought you should keep in mind to make your experience here at UConn run smoothly.
UConn Pre-College Summer is not responsible for lost or stolen items, or any personal belongings left behind at the conclusion of each session. Students are responsible for taking care of their personal property at all times. We recommend that students do not bring jewelry, electronics, or expensive items that can be misplaced or stolen.
Packing List
- Clothing: Dress is casual and keep in mind that it can get pretty hot in Connecticut
- Pajamas and personal garments
- Laboratory attire: Long pants, close-toed shoes, and hair tie for long hair
- Light jacket or sweater: The air conditioning indoors can be strong, layering is always a good idea
- Rain gear: a rain jacket and umbrella just in case we get a rainy day
- Walking shoes: UConn is a big campus, you will be walking a lot!
- Sports/workout gear
- Shower shoes: flip-flops will do
- Personal toiletries (shampoo, body wash, etc.) including a shower/bathroom caddy
- Extra towels, we only provide one in the linen packet
- Hair dryer
- Laundry bag/basket, detergent, hangers
- Sunscreen, bug spray, and sunglasses
- Notebook, pen, backpack
- Alarm clock
- Your favorite snacks
- The one pillow you can't sleep without: We will provide you with one, but is one ever enough?
- An extra blanket or comforter
- Headphones: to use on your walk to class or listen to music on your free time
- Contact lenses or glasses
- A photo ID and health insurance card
- Medication: Staff cannot administer medication, you are responsible for acquiring it, paying for it, and administering any medication you take.
Optional Items to Bring
- Cellphone: our staff may utilize a group chat to check in with students during the program
- Laptop/tablet: not required, but will be useful for class sessions; courses with a lot of computer-work have coordinated to offer some class sessions in computer labs so students may access a computer there
- Camera to take pictures of the beautiful campus
- White t-shirt or item if a tie dye activity is facilitated
- Spending money: in case there is a visit to the UConn Bookstore, Dairy Bar, or Downtown Storrs Center, or other trip
- Musical instrument
- Athletic equipment: UConn has basketball and volleyball courts, as well as soccer and tennis fields
We Will Provide
- Breakfast, lunch, and dinner (first meal starts with dinner on each Sunday)
- Room furnishings: XL twin bed, dresser, desk, chair, and waste basket
- Linen packet: top sheet, fitted sheet, thin cotton blanket, towel, face cloth, pillow, and pillow case
- The dorm rooms can be on the cold side, we suggest bringing a blanket of your own in addition to the one we provide
- A lanyard with meal card and room key
- Program t-shirt, string backpack, notebook, and water bottle
- Wireless Internet
- Laundry machines (Information and how to operate laundry machines)
Course Materials
Gathering any additional course materials or completing any additional forms or trainings prior to the program will be communicated to students via email. More course information can be found on each course's HuskyCT page. Resources for accessing HuskyCT may be found here.
Do Not Bring
- Valuables (jewelry, electronics, or expensive items)
- Extension cords
- Motor Vehicles, mopeds, or motorcycles
- Air conditioners
- Electric heaters, toaster ovens, hot plates, electric grills or skillets
- Firearms, ammunition, any weapons, bows, guns, BB guns, slingshots, and launching devices
- Fireworks, powder, and other explosive or potentially dangerous objects
- Drugs, narcotics, harmful materials
- Any items with exposed heating elements, candles or incense
- Pets
