Summer Staff Biographies

Check out our Summer 2017 Staff!

My name is Joe and I am the Graduate Assistant for the Office of Early College Experience and Pre-College Programs. I graduated from Merrimack College with my degree in Health Science, and am now pursuing my Master’s Degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs at UConn! I have a strong interest in working with student leaders in social and academic settings, and I am very excited for UConn Pre-College! I am an avid traveler, having visited Europe many times, including during my semester abroad studying in Rome, Italy. Other than traveling, I love to cook, explore new places and restaurants, and love any minute I get sitting on the beach or near the water! I am looking forward to meeting and working with everyone this summer!

My name is Abby, and I will be a Hall Coordinator this summer on the Pre-College Summer staff. I graduated from UConn with an Allied Health Sciences degree and am now half-way through my Master’s in Exercise Science in the Kinesiology Department. I’m also a graduate research assistant in the EC Lee Lab and will be starting research for my thesis project in the Fall. I hope to pursue either a PhD or MD after I graduate. I love to travel and have been abroad to Salamanca, Spain and Cape Town, South Africa through UConn programs. A fun fact about me – I’m afraid of heights and I completed the highest bungee jump in the world while in South Africa.

I’m Ty and I will be a Hall Coordinator at the Pre-College Summer Program.  I grew up in the middle of Wyoming, where I spent time on my family’s farm and ranch. After graduating from the University of Wyoming with my BA in English, I made my way to the East Coast to complete my MA in Higher Education and Student Affairs.  This coming fall, I will start my third year in the Higher and Postsecondary Education doctoral program at Teachers College, Columbia University.  I research the ways in which the rural context intersects with higher education. When I’m not studying, I enjoy relaxing with my partner and dog Bravo, participating in fun activities in the city and around New England, reading, catching up on Netflix shows (currently just binge-watched Dear White People!), and attempting to play the piano.

I love traveling and have been to Costa Rica and Mexico this past year, but hope to broaden this list of countries. I am also bi-lingual, fluent in Urdu and English and am a first-generation college student. During the school year, I am involved with: my job as a Resident Assistant, a Leadership in Diversity club, a Pakistani Community at UConn club, and I am also a new inductee of a TME Mentorship program.
Hi, my name is Blake and I’m excited to be serving as a Resident Manager on the behalf of the Pre-College Summer staff. I graduated from UConn in 2017 with a degree in Molecular and Cell Biology and am headed to UConn School of Dental Medicine this fall. Outside of school I love to play tennis, cook meals, and do photography in my spare time. A fun fact about myself is that I’m addicted to online shopping and have placed over 50 amazon orders in the last year. I love meeting new people so definitely don’t hesitate to say hello!!
My name is Maman and I am a recent graduate of the Class of 2017.  I majored in Political Science and will be a  Resident Manager this summer.  As a career I hope to be an international, inspirational, and motivational social justice activist and speaker who writes books and starts/runs social activism programs! My favorite color is Royal Blue; but I really like black, red, pink, and purple. I like to write/blog, listen to music and YouTube videos, read, EAT!, and talk in my free time. If I am stressed, hungry, upset, tired, etc, FEED ME! I am not myself when I am hungry!
My name is Hendrix and I graduated from UConn in May 2017, where I majored in Philosophy. This Summer I will be a Resident Manager for Pre-College Summer, and I’m so excited to meet and get to know you all! Hello, my name is Demario and I am looking forward to being a Resident Manager for the 2017 Pre-College Summer program. I will be a 5th year senior at UConn this fall finishing up my last semester (but still repping class 2017!) I am a Digital Media & Design major concentrating in Marketing Strategies, and am passionate about and interested in the creative process and art in all of its many forms (which I am fortunate enough to pursue a career in). I was born in Jamaica and came to the U.S. when I was one year old. I lived in Hartford, CT until 6th grade before moving to Bloomfield where I currently reside. I started running outdoor track as a high school Junior, and by senior year I out-shined my basketball career as I became the top High, Long, and Triple Jumper in the state. Undoubtedly, my success in high school helped me secure the chance to run track & field during my 4 years at UConn. My interests include art, sports anime, sciences, global issues, economics, you name it. Feel free to spark a conversation, I’m always up for talking about interesting topics.
My name is Rachel and I’ll be a Resident Manager during this summer’s Pre-College Summer Program! I am going into my senior year at UConn, majoring in Chemistry Education and General Science Education, with the intention of being a middle or high school science teacher. I love learning about random stuff, spending time outside, and meeting new people. I can’t wait to start helping everyone explore the university!
