Are you interested in exploring the world of animation and design? Our Pre-College Summer Animation course offers high school students an introduction to the basics and history of animation. Students will learn traditional cell animation, stop motion and 3D Claymation. During this one week session, students will gain an understanding of the “tricks of the trade,” storyboard development and character development. The class will also dig into contemporary topics such as collaborative story telling and navigating multiple animation techniques within a single production. This class will offer students an opportunity to learn Dragonframe, the software program that is an industry standard for stop-motion animation. This is great insight to the process used by professional studio animators.
The goal of this course is to empower students to make animations on their own using limited materials. Students learn how to make animations on their smart phones using different applications. This content can easily translate to portfolio materials for college applications. This is a great class for students who are curious about studying art, illustration or animation at the college level. No previous animation experience is required!
Participants will leave the course with a few souvenirs from their experience:
- A framed piece of art based on the character they develop
- A 3-D sculpted model of their character
- An "animation reel" highlighting three unique approaches to studio animation
